Leaders of the Pulaski County School District have decided to close the alternative program at Pulaski Central High School. The Commonwealth Journal says any students using the services will be transitioned to programs at either Southwestern or Pulaski County High School. The changes comes as fewer students are taking advantage of the program at Pulaski Central High School.

Mobile home burns
A mobile home near Somerset was destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon. It happened on West Kentucky 80 about two miles west of Somerset in the Raceway Mobile Home Park. The Commonwealth Journal says a mobile home was engulfed in flames when crews got to the scene. The mobile home was unoccupied. Two other mobile homes sustained some minor damage. The cause remains under investigation.

Fire crews have busy Saturday morning
A fire destroyed Goose Creek Candle Company in Liberty on Saturday morning. A passing motorist made the first call about the fire. The Advocate-Messenger says the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. More than 200 firefighters from eight departments spent four hours battling the blaze before they got a handle on it. No one was in the building when the fire started. About 75 people work at the building.

Garrard County Schools Name New Superintendent
The Garrard County Board of Education has named a new school superintendent. Paul Mullins,
currently the principal at Larue County High School, will fill the position being vacated by Donald Aldridge, who is retiring, effective July 1st.

New feature of Lincoln County Library summer reading program
The Lincoln County Public Library is expanding its summer reading program to include free meals. The program is called Fueling the Mind. The goal is to provide free meals during the 2013 summer break, along with literacy programming, to keep children fed and reading all summer. The Lincoln County Public Library got a $6,500 grant to hire staff, and provide materials.

Kentucky School for the Deaf land changes hands
The state has sold two parcels of land at the Kentucky School for the Deaf, which includes the engineer's house. The purchase covers about 1 1/2 acres of land adjacent to Second and Jacobs streets. Stanford-based First Southern Funding LLC bought the parcels for close to $67,000.

More volunteer help needed on Danville committees
The Danville City Commission has a lot of openings on city committees to fill. City manager Ron Scott was asked to put together a list of current vacancies on Danville's committees, and those openings total 21. Scott said it has been tough to find people willing to serve on committees. The city has 18 panels.
