Eight Fort Campbell soldiers were killed over the weekend in two separate attacks in Afghanistan. The Department of Defense reported that three were killed in Kandahar province this past Saturday. DOD said a suicide bomber detonated a bomb in his vest. None of the three were from Kentucky but were all assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.
In a separate attack, five were killed on Sunday in Western Afghanistan. DOD said they were from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, but did not release their names, nor details of the attack that killed them.
