Traffic on U.S. 27 in Somerset had to take a detour much of yesterday afternoon while emergency responders cleaned up the wreckage from a crash that injured four people including two children. Somerset police say the two-vehicle crash happened in front of the Somerset WalMart about 2pm when the driver of a southbound car ran the red light and smashed into an eastbound car. A tire spun off that car and hit a third vehicle which was waiting to make a left turn. The driver of the eastbound car and three passengers from it were taken by ambulance to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Their current conditions are not available.

Parksville Home Burns
Firefighters in Boyle county were called to a house fire today by one of their own. A Lieutenant with the Boy County fire department lives across the street from the house that caught fire in Parksville about 10:45 this morning. Assistant Fire Chief Tony Broyles says no one was at home at the time of the fire, but there were flames coming from the back of the home and it appears the fire started there. He believes the home will be a total loss, although flames only damaged the back. The rest of the damage came from smoke and water.
McConnell Calls for No New Taxes
US Senate Majority leader, Kentucky's Mitch McConnell and others are at the White House today meeting with the President. On the floor of the senate, before heading to the meeting, McConnell told fellow lawmakers that people don't want just talk.
McConnell said, "Millions of out-of-work Americans don’t want a message. They want a job. Millions of struggling families trying to make ends meet don’t need the Democrat messaging to improve; they need the economy to improve."
McConnell's comment followed another that suggested that those making a million dollars or more a year should not get a tax break. He said that number is ambiguous and that he wants to see no new taxes on anybody.

At the end of this year, a series of tax cuts at the federal level will come to an end. The "Bush tax cuts," as they're commonly known, have to be renewed by the lame-duck Congress in order to continue past December 31st. Four Hurt in Three Vehicle Crash
Four people, including two children were hurt in a three vehicle crash yesterday in Somerset. Police said the crash happened at the intersection in front of Walmart and Office Depot around 2 p.m. when 40 year old James Bray of Bronston ran a red light on US 27 and his car collided with one that 21 year old Steven Begley of Ferguson was driving eastbound on Washington Drive. Police said a third vehicle that 31 year old Timothy Kelly of Somerset was involved when a tire from Begley's car hit Kelly's car. Begley and adult in his car were treated at the scene and two children in his car were taken to the hospital, but Kelly and Bray were not hurt.

Crab Orchard Man Arrested on Meth Charges
A suspended drivers license landed a Crab Orchard man in jail a week ago. Lincoln County deputies arrested 25 year old Ricky Byrd after he passed one deputy on US 150 and was stopped late last Tuesday night. Byrd tried to flee from deputies, crashed his car and fled on foot. Deputies said Byrd threw a blue duffel bag as he ran and they found it after they arrested him. They said it contained items used to make methamphetamine. Byrd was charged with related counts and KSP's hazmat team came to remove the bag and its contents.
Police: Robbery No Joke
Was it a joke? Richmond Police said a man walked into the BP on Four Mile Road with his face covered and armed with a BB gun. He demanded money from the clerk and when the clerk questioned whether it was a real robbery, police said the suspect took the mask off, revealing himself. Now, 22 year old Beverly Horn, the suspect is in jail, but not until he ran off, empty handed and witnesses who could describe him to police. When police went to Horn's home, he said the robbery was a joke. Nonetheless, they arrested him.robbery.
Man Injured In Crash
Kentucky State Police said a man was hurt in a crash last week. They reported yesterday afternoon that it happened around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, about 14 miles east of Liberty on KY 70. KSP said it happened when 39 year old Angelo Blackwood lost control of his car and hit a ditch. Blackwood was wearing his seatbelt, and taken to the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, treated and released.
Broadband -- Finally!
They've waited a long time for this, and now Boyle County residents can get signed up for broadband internet service. There are now three tower in place that carry the internet into homes via Danville based KyWiMAX. The company and Boyle Fiscal Court signed a ten year agreement where the company pays the county just over 900 dollars a month to lease space on the three towers and could extend the contract if they all agree.
Fire in Perryville Nearly Destroys Mobile Home
Boyle County fire investigators are trying to find the cause of a fire that they say probably destroyed a home in Perryville yesterday afternoon. A man escaped the fire that broke out around 2:30 p.m. at the mobile home on Springfield Road near US 150. Firefighters knocked down the flames quickly but said the living room and kitchen areas were heavily damaged. They said it looked like the fire started in the living room.

Qoman Injured in Thanksgiving Day Crash
Kentucky State Police said a woman was hurt in a single vehicle crash on Thanksgiving. They said 18 year old Miranda Summers was heading east on Kentucky 70, about eight miles east of Liberty when she lost control of her car in a curve and hit a tree. Police said she was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and was airlifted to UK Hospital in Lexington where she was then listed in stable condition.
Salvation Army Says Donations Down
The Salvation Army says it's seeing a decrease in donations this holiday season. Officials say the Red Kettle campaign is down several thousand dollars this year and Salvation Army leaders in some counties report that the bad economy is not helping their bottom line. The funds raised during the holiday season are spread over an entire year to fund projects and programs. The Red Kettle runs Monday through Saturday until Christmas Eve.
MCC Recognized Again
Morgan Community College has again been nationally recognized. Business Champions, which is an organization of leaders in economic opportunity and education, said the it put MCC in its publication as a brief titled "How to Create High-Impact Partnerships for Jobs and Economic Vitality in the U.S." It was sent to the White House Summit on Community Colleges. Fire Destroys Carpenter's Tools and Supplies
A Junction City carpenter said he probably lost thousand of dollars in equipment and supplies in a fire on Saturday. Fire officials said the fire gutted Mike Sinkhorn's workshop Saturday afternoon and Sinkhorn said he lost about ten thousand dollars in tools and thousands in wood in the fire. Sinkhorn said that while he lost everything, he's glad firefighters were able to stop the blaze from spreading to his or his neighbor's houses on Russell Street. While the fire department did not have a official cause for the fire, Sinkhorn figures it was started by a heater in his workshop.
Two Indicted on Counterfeit Charges
Two men who have been accused of passing counterfeit money at Danville businesses have been indicted. The Junction City men identified as 27 year old Jorge Ascencio Jr. and 22 year old Jamin D. McDade were indicted by a Boyle County grand jury on six counts each of criminal possession of criminal possession of a forged instrument. The indictments say the two allegedly used the fake bills to buy items at five Danville businesses in early September. They were also found to have the counterfeit money on their persons when they were arrested.
Lawsuit Filed in Mercer County After Hot Water Heater Explodes
The gas company, the landlord and a hot water heater manufacturer are all named as defendants in a lawsuit in Mercer County that was brought by a Burgin woman who's seven year old daughter wan burned in an explosion, Carla Washington said in her suit, filed for her daughter Kaylee Freeland, that landlords Marsha and Glen Hurst, Rheem Manufacturing and Atmos energy did not properly protect the girl from injury when the hot water heater exploded a year ago, causing Kaylee to be burned over 50 percent of her body. The suit said Atmos came to the rental property to restore gas service after it had been shut off for nonpayment. When the child went into the utility room where the water heated was kept is when the explosion occurred. A plastic container of gasoline was also in that room. The suit seeks unspecified damages for the child and her mother.
Nicholasville City Commission Recount Starts Today
The election for Nicholasville city commission put a new city commissioner in office by one vote -- apparently, so today, they'll recount the votes. City Commissioner Betty Black lost by that one vote and is putting up the four thousand dollar bond to cover the cost of the recount. When it was over on November 2, Black lost her re-election bid to Johnnie Collier by one vote: 3,472 to 3,471 and Jessamine Circuit Judge Hunter Daugherty set today as recount day. Black's attorney claimed in court last week that there were more than 540 spoiled ballots and that because of the single vote difference, the recount was necessary. Because the votes will be recounted by hand, officials said the recount will take up to three days.
Somerset Passes Ordinance on Second Reading for a Second Time
The city of Somerset wants to annex part of the US 27 corridor between the water plant at Waitsboro and State Branch Road. While Somerset's city attorney does not expect much of a fight for the unincorporated property from the city of Burnside, Carrie Weisse said she wants to make sure everything is done correctly. She said there was no record of sending a letter to the state highway department before the first time the ordinance was passed on second reading, so the letter was sent, and council again passed the annexation ordinance on second reading.

IDA Land Buy
The ink only recently dried on the Garrard County Industrial Development Authority’s deal to sell the long-vacant spec building, but the IDA has already moved on to literally greener pastures. Now the IDA has purchased 90 acres of mostly undeveloped land in north Lancaster near the east side of U.S. 27, across from McDonald’s. The land has no highway frontage but does have a gravel driveway giving access from U.s. 27. It's costing $173,000. Chairman David Land said the IDA jumped at the chance because the opportunity to buy land primed for business and industrial use doesn’t come along all that often.
Two Injured in Bradfordsville Crash
Two people were injured north of Bradforsville on Wednesday night when a car ran off the road and hit a ditch. Kentucky State Police said that it happened on Kentucky 1157 around 930 pm. Thirty-three year old Howard W. Gribbins III of Campbellsville was driving a mustang south on 1157 when hit went off the road and hit the ditch. Police said that neither Gribbins, nor his passenger, 22 year old Shannon Hudgins of Lebanon were wearing seatbelts. They were treated and released from Springview Hospital.
Black Friday in the Blugrass
While many people spent Thanksgiving with food and football, others, went shopping. Lots of stores in the Bluegrass were ready for them too and even as we speak, stores are open for the Black Friday shopping day. Many shoppers said yesterday, and more so today, they're looking for bargans that everybody sees advertised for a week before Thanksgiving to get them into the stores to shop for the holidays.
Danville Police, Fire Join for Toys
Danville Fire and Police Departments are getting together for the annual toy drive. Both said more people will need help getting their kids something for Christmas this year than last. Officials say that more than 270 people are already signed up to get help this holiday season and that the ten thousand shot in the arm from the Shop with a Cop program will help both departments help those in need. If you'd like to donate, contact either Danville Police or the Danville Fire Department. If you need help, there's a second sign up in December.
Lincoln, Garrard Counties Have New Recycling Centers
Starting Tuesday residents in Lincoln and Garrard Counties will have an easier time of recycling. That's when there will be six new drop off sites for items for recycling -- four in Lincoln County and two in Garrard County. The four in Lincoln County are at Crab Orchard City Hall, Hustonville City Hall, next to Walmart in Stanford, and at the Waynesburg Area Rescue Squad. The two in Garrard County are at Camp Dick Fire Station Number 3, in the north end of the county and at the Garrard County Convenience Center near the Boyle County line. Officials said that by separating recyclables from trash, residents will save money since it costs per bag to drop off trash.
Nicholasville Man Killed in Ohio Crash
A Nicholasville, Kentucky man is dead after a crash in Ohio. Ohio State Police said that Jason Thomas was killed two semis collided on Interstate 76. He was riding a semi that Steven Stout of Pulaski County was driving. Stout had critical injuries. The crahs closed the interstate for several hours yesterday.
God's Food Pantry Busy During Holidays
Thanksgiving day meant lots of people were preparing lots of food, and much of it for other people. So the case of volunteers at God's Food Pantry in Somerset. Those being fed number about 200 families. Hundreds enjoyed all the trimmings of turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie and more in food baskets delivered to them from the pantry. God's Food Pantry is now signing up those who need help for Christmas and that runs through December 3.

PCDC Inmates Eat Thanksgiving Dinner Tomorrow
Inmates at the Pulaski County Detention Center will enjoy Thanksgiving with all the good eats tomorrow. The nearly 300 inmates will have turkey and dressing, sweet potatoes, green beans, rolls, pumpkin pie and milk. They'll all enjoy all the holiday food.
Property Owner, Fiscal Court Go Back and Forth Over Road Upgrades
They went back and forth at Tuesday's Lincoln County fiscal court meeting over a road that serves one house. Property owner Greg Rice said the steep down which he built his house two years ago needs some safety improvements so his children can get to the school bus. The county says that will cost upwards of 70 dollars and questioned why he built there. Rice said its his property to do with what he wants. Court said they couldn't do anything at that meeting, but that they'd take it under advisement.

Lots of Money, Can't Spend a Cent
Imagine. you have one million, one hundred 15 thousand dollars, but you can't spend it. ? Yes, and it gets worse: if you don't spend it, it could be taken away from you. That's what the city of Lancaster is up against with four sewer improvement grants. They got those grants over several years, but in order to use them, they have to have the rest of the money for the projects, but Mayor Don Rinthen said they just don't have it. He said the policy on the money could change though, if the legislature changes the basis for the grants and allows the city to put them together and use them for the sewer project.
Firefighters Fight Blaze Before it Spreads
Nearly three dozen firefighters from both Boyle and Lincoln Counties fought a fire on Phillips Lane near the county line yesterday morning. Officials said the fire broke out around 1 a.m. and what they had first thought was a grass fire, was in fact a garage fire. The blaze spread from the garage to part of a vacant mobile home and then to a wooded area. Crews were able to contain the fire before it got to a housing addition. No one was hurt in the fire.
Two Arrested After Police Chase
Two people were arrested on Monday night after going the wrong way and leading Stanford Police on a chase. Lincoln County Sheriff's officials said the car was going the wrong way on Highway 150, nearly hitting other cars. Deputies tried to pull the driver over, but he kept going. Stanford police got in on the action, setting up a road block and the suspect's car then hit the deputy's car. No one was hurt, but the driver, 22-year-old Philip N. Mwaura, of Lexington now faces several charges. The passenger was arrested for being intoxicated.
City to Raze Building
The city of Danville will pay a contractor eight thousand dollars to take down a building on Fourth Street. The building was the scene of a fire last year and the city commission voted on Monday to pay Superior Demolition of Lexington to demolish the building. The city is saving 12 thousand dollars over the next highest bidder. Since the fire broke out in May of last year, the building has been the subject of numerous civil lawsuits and a criminal investigation against its owner, Michael Lambert of Louisville, who was accused of setting the place on fire.

Robber Hits Another Danville BP
Police don't believe at this point that the armed robberies of two Danville BP stations in the same month and another Danville business last week are related, but the speculate the motive for the robberies is the same: simple economics. Police say the Man O' War BP was robbed yesterday evening by robber wearing a Halloween mask and brandishing a gun. A man robbed the Triangle Mart BP on November 12th using an handgun, and a robber bearing a knife struck at a Cash Express store. There have also been three other armed robberies at stores nearby since the end of last year. Two other check-cashing businesses and the Sleep Outfitters have been targeted by armed robbers. The accused robbers in two of those crimes are awaiting trial.
Former KSP Trooper Killed Sunday
A former state trooper was killed in a motor-cycle crash on Sunday. The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department said 45 year old Jeffery Collier of Somerset was riding his motorcycle east on Kentucky 914 just before 6 p.m. when a car driven by 33-year-old Misty Eldridge of Somerset, pulled into his path from Imogene Drive. Collier died at a Lexington hospital. Pulaski County Sheriff Todd Wood it was a simple accident. Eldridge told authorities that she stopped at the stop sign, looked for traffic, and proceeded, but hit Collier's motorcycle. Collier was from Partridge, Kentucky but lived in Somerset for the past ten years. He worked as a trooper in Letcher County.
Children's Author at Boyle Co Public Library on Friday
Kids are out of school on Friday following the Thanksgiving holiday, so take them to the library. If they go to the Boyle County Public Library, they'll get to meet children's book author Barbara Joosse. She'll be at the library at 10:30 a.m. to present "A Reader's Hug" and sign some books. Several of her 30 books have won awards and been on several best seller lists. You can order her books through the library.
Danville Salvation Army Red Kettles to Raise $85,000
Its their biggest fundraiser of the year, and the Danville Salvation Army said it won't change this year's dollar goal. Its the same 85 thousand dollars for its red kettle campaign that its had for the past two years. Even with the economy being down this year, the organization said it will still shoot for that amount to help families during the holidays. The Danville Salvation Army supports people and programs in Boyle, Casey, Garrard, Lincoln and Mercer counties and the campaign kicks off with bell ringers starting Friday, through December 24.
Garrard DA Buys 90 Acres
Garrard County Industrial Development Authority bought 90 acres of vacant land north of Lancaster on Monday. The property is just off the east side US 27. The land will cost the IDA more than 173 thousand dollars, but they're not sure what they're going to do with the property. The land is considered prime for industry, with its location and access road just off of 27. Garrard County Economic Development for now, it could be county green space, until somebody decides what to do with it.
Lincoln Co Man Faces Several Charges After Chase
Danville Police and Boyle County deputies teamed up to catch an alleged car thief on Saturday. Sheriff Marty Elliott said that Danville got a 911 Saturday around 5 p.m. Witnesses told dispatchers that 28 year old Sam Blakely of Stanford was using a vehicle to ram the caller's car. The caller was heading east on Perryville Road, heading toward Danville. Deputies saw Blakely, and he fled in the vehicle, so they gave chase, heading into Lincoln County. Blakely started driving off Bowen Road, through a tobacco barn and his car was rammed by a deputy's car. Sheriff's officials said Blakely got back onto the road, just missing people standing in their yard, then he lost contol of the car and crashed into a creek. He got out of the car, made a run for it, but deputies caught him and took him to jail. Blakely was charged with several crimes, including DUI -- deputies said his blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit -- driving a stolen vehicle, wanton endangerment, and several other charges. Hes in the Boyle County Detention Center on 42 thousand dollars bond.
Three Hurt in Two Vehicle Crash
Three peoople were hurt in a crash yesterday afternooon in Danville. Police said that two cars collided on the bypass by the Kroger. Witnesses said a Mazda ran the stoplight, and hit an Oldsmobile Alero as the Alero turned left out of the parking lot to head east on the bypass. Both drivers and a passenger in the Alero were takne to the hospital, but polic didn't know how severely they were injured. Their names were not released.

Estill County Murder-Suicide
Authorities say an apparent murder-suicide is to blame for the deaths of two people in Estill County yesterday afternoon. According to a report released this morning, at 3:35 p.m. yesterday KSP Troopers responded to the report of gunshots at 205 Meadows Lane. When they arrived, both people in the home were dead. Police have identified the pair as 53-year old are identified as Michael Boyle of Estill County and 35-year old Kelli Barr of Mineral, West Virginia. According to investigators, the shooting appears to be a murder-suicide. They say Boyle and Barr were living together at the time of the shooting.

If you get a call from Morgan and Associates about paying back a payday loan, beware. While there is a Morgan and Associates in San Francisco, a Kentucky woman learned that there's an illegitimate company getting into your private information and trying to scam you with it. KSP Steps Up DUI Patrols
Kentucky State Police are ramping up patrols this holiday season, on the alert for drunk drivers. KSP's safety checkpoints will run from the 24th through the 28th. Last year in Kentucky, there were some 65 hundred drunk driver involved crashes.
Man Allegedly Attacked by Stepson
A teenager is in the Adair County Juvenile Detention Center facing several charges, including assault. Pulaski County Sheriff's officials said the teen allegedly attacked his stepfather on Saturday. They said 48 year old Rick Smith had cuts on his arms when they got to a home in Pulaski County on Saturday night. He told investigators his 17-year-old stepson cut him with a knife and tried to hit him in the head with a rock. Smith was flown to UK to be treated for his injuries and deputies arrested the teen early Sunday morning.
Campbellsville Woman Faces DUI Charge After Crash
A Campbellsville woman faces a DUI charge after an injury crash on Friday night. Washington County authorities said it happened on KY 150, west of Springfield. They say Jennifer Skaggs was heading east when she hit Kenneth Hughes' vehicle head on. Police said both were wearing seatbelts, but 18 year old Hughes was treated and released from Springview Hospital. Twenty-five year old Skaggs refused treatment and was arrested and charged with DUI.
Garrard Man Pleads To Pot Charges
A Garrard County man pleaded guilty last week to a federal charge of growing and distributing marijuana. Jon Hancock of High Bridge Road will be sentenced on February 18 in U.S. District Court in Lexington and faces five to 40 years in prison. Hancock plead guilty to growing 385 pot plants on a farm in Garrard County, intending to sell them in 2008. Court documents say that Hancock helped Christopher and Carol Ball in a marijuana grow operation.
Boys Praised for Act of Heroism in Fire
Their classmates got to share in their heroism when three brothers were honored Friday for escaping from a house fire on Tuesday. It was during an assembly on Friday morning at Jennie Rogers Elementary School that Danville Fire Marshal Ken Pflug gave nine year old Jeremy Quinn, Ethan Quinn and Zachary Phillips, who goes to Bate Middle School certificates. Jeremy is credited with waking his grandmother and getting her out of the house before throwing a cinder block through a window to help get his brothers out. Fire officials said grandmother Patty May went back into the house to get her purse and fire fighters found her in a doorway. She's still at University of Kentucky Hospital. Jeremy drew high praise for his act of heroism, alerting everyone to the fire.
Check Cashing Business Robbed Friday
Danville police are looking for a man who allegedly robbed a Danville check-cashing business at knifepoint on Friday. Police said a man came into the Cash Express on Houstonville Road around 3:30 p.m. brandishing a knife and demanded money. He then fled on foot northbound. The suspect is described as a white man, about five feet tall, 200 pounds, at the time he was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, black hat sunglasses, bluejeans and white tennis shoes. Its not known if the man got into a vehicle. If you know anything about the robbery, call Danville Police.

Fourth Woman Says Ryan Raped Her as A Child
A fourth case of alleged sexual abuse of a child has been filed against Ricky Dale Ryan, a Burgin man who is awaiting trial in the other three similar cases. A Mercer county grand jury recently haded back an indictment against Ryan adding two counts of rape, two counts of sodomy and one count of first-degree sexual abuse.
As in at least one of the other cases, the alleged sexual abuse happened decades ago. At the time, the fourth victim says she was 12 years old, and the abuse continued until 1992, when she was 26. She is the sister of another woman who also has alleged Ryan raped and sexually abused her 30 years ago. One of those women's daughter has leveled the same allegations, saying Ryan abused her when she was younger than 12. The allegation that started the investigation was from a 10-year old girl, who is still a juvenile today.
Ryan remains jailed in Boyle County. where he has been held awaiting trial since May of last year.

Peppard Asked to "Retire" from Library
The executive board of the Lincoln County Public Library asked its director, Kay Peppard to retire from her post. She said she knew what that meant: retire or be fired. She said she and the board have not had a good relationship since she refused to build a new library in downtown Stanford, wanting it instead, built on the northwest side of town. She said it was a bigger site and could meet the community's needs. Since here retirement, Peppard said the support of the community has not stopped. She said people have called her constantly to show their concern and wish her well. Also since her leaving the library, board members Gladys Burnside and Keith Lemons have resigned because of what they said was the way Peppard was asked to retire.
New Baler at Recycling Center
They have some new equipment at the Lincoln-Garrard Recycling Center. Lots of local leaders got together this week to see what will make recycling faster and more efficient. Its a horizontal bailer that the center got with a grant from the Kentucky Solid Waste Division. The baler will help build four bales of recyclable materials in the time the old baler took to build one.
KY Unemployment Rate Down to 10 percent
Not unlike many other states, Kentucky's unemployment rate is at ten percent. The Kentucky Office of Employment and Training said that's down slightly in October from September, when it was 10.1 percent. State officials said that with even a slight downturn in the number, more people are going back to work and the economy could be showing signs of improving.
Police: Woman Did Everything Right
Police said she did every thing right. When a man broke into a woman's home in Nicholasville late yesterday morning, she and her infant hid in a locked bathroom. She called 911 from there, and when police arrived, the suspect was running out the back door. Police made a quick arrest. Neither the woman or the baby were hurt. Police charged 26 year old Erik W Reynolds of Nicholasville with burglary. He's in the Jessamine County Detention Center.
Woman Tells Police Man Tried to Get Into Her Car
Danville Police got a call early Wednesday morning of three men who approached a woman as she tried to get out of her car. Police said the call came in just before 3 a.m. The woman told dispatchers that three males approached her car when she stopped in front of her own house on Fitzpatrick Street. She said one of the three tried to open her car door, but ran off when she started beating on the window from inside the car and asked what they were doing. A police report said the man backed off, saying he thought the woman was his cousin. He took off running toward Wilderness Road. She told police he put his hand in his pocket as though he might have a weapon. The other two males ran down the alley.
Mercer Co Jurty Indicts Man of Numerous Counts of Sexual Abuse
He's already been accused of sexually abusing three women when they were girls, and now, 52 year old Ricky Dale Ryan of Burgin has been accused of abusing a fourth. Last week, a Mercer County grand jury handed down several indictments against Ryan. He's charged with two counts of rape, two of sodomy and two sexual assault. The incidents allegedly happened from 1978 through 1992 and the now adult victim is the sister of another victim. Harrodsburg Detective Garry Bradshaw said one of those victims' daughters said Ryan also raped and abused her when she was under 12 years old. Bradshaw is investigating all the cases and the victim's names were not released.

Eleven Indicted From "November Rain"
Eleven people have so far been indicted from that drug round up last week, called "November Rain", that netted 120 suspects in Garrard, Boyle, Mercer and Lincoln Counties. A Mercer County Grand Jury handed down the indictments. The first 80 who were arrested face various drug charges and their bonds range from five thousand to 100 thousand dollars. Eight others were indicted by the same grand jury, but for different crimes.
July Fatality Crash Leads to Lawsuit
A fatal car crash this summer is leading to a lawsuit this fall. Chris Cornett, the husband of the late Maggie Cornett of Kings Mountain, has filed suit against a driver involved in the wreck and the company he's employed by. The July 24th wreck happened, according to police, when Helen Ryan of Stanford ran a stop sign at Old South Fork Road and Kentucky 501. Once in the intersection, she was hit in the passenger side by a pickup truck driven by Darrell Emerson. Maggie Cornett was a passenger in Ryan's pickup. Chris Cornett and the couple's children are suing Emerson and Bankhead Railways, which owned the pickup he was driving. They seek unspecified damages.
Solar Panel Manufacturer to Start Up Soon in Danville
The owners of a solar panel manufacturing business that's starting up in Danville say they're only weeks away from their assembly being up and running. The scheduled install date for the assembly line is December 16th, says Alternative Energies Kentucky owner Troy Lay. The company will assemble and install the panels as people in the area become more involved in the push for "green" energy. Nine people are on the payroll already and Lay plans to have a workforce of 25 when the line goes active. They will be making photovoltaic panels, which convert sunlight to electricity. Small solar panels of this type are commonly being used nationwide to charge the batteries that run LED traffic lights and river-stage reporting stations.
Woman Killed in Marion County Crash
Kentucky State Police say alcohol is believed to be a factor in a fatal crash in Marion County last Sunday. They said that 34 year old Shannon Pinkston of Bardstown was not wearing a seatbelt and was killed when the car that 36 year old James Pinkston was driving. KSP said Pinkston's car was heading north on Highway 527, about four miles north of St Francis and he lost control of the car. The car went off the road and hit a tree. He was wearing a seatbelt and was taken to a Louisville hospital. KSP is still investigating.
Fowler Honored
For six and a half years at the helm of the Danville-Boyle Coutny Chamber of Commerce, Paula Fowler has been honored. The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Executives board of directors recognized the executive director for her time in service when the group held its full meeting in Murray last week. Fowler has been of that state board during her time with the local chamber. She said she's pleased that the state level organization and its executive board have worked well together. She said the state level chamber has now gone beyond the borders of the Commonwealth and is working with executives in Indiana this year, and will include Ohio next year.

New Start Up Green Energy Company Goes Online Next Month
Kentucky's only photovoltaic solar panel manufacturer will go on line next month in Boyle County. Troy Lay of Harrodsburg is a former ATR employee and now the owner of Alternative Energies Kentucky LLC and said that starting December 16, he'll have 25 employees making and installing 75 solar panels a day. He said later on, he wants the company making the green energy panels seven days a week. AEK is located in the former ATR building and Lay said he may have a Canadian buyer for the entire first run of 25 thousand panels
Man Busted for Selling Methadone
Berea Police arrested a man for selling methadone. They said they got a tip last week that 61 year old Gary Faulconer had been selling the drug from his house. When the Kentucky Cabinet for Child and Family Services got involved, they found that he was selling the suspected drug and his child was in the house. Police said while they couldn't give out the child's age or gender, they did say it was not an infant or toddler. Faulconer admitted to police that he sold the drug and has now been charged with felony trafficking in a controlled substance. He's in the Madison County Jail on a ten thousand dollar cash only bond and could get ten years if he's convicted.

Danville School Administrator Named to State Association Board
Danville Independents Schools Director of Pupil Personnel Chuck Stallard is joining the board of directors of the largest school administrators organization in the state. According to a news release, he was selected to represent Kentucky Association of School Administrators affiliate, the Kentucky Directors of Pupil Personnel. His two year term starts next year. The KASA Board is the primary lobbying organization for Kentucky schools in each legislative session. It represents more than 3,000 education leaders statewide.
Eight Ft Campbell Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan
Eight Fort Campbell soldiers were killed over the weekend in two separate attacks in Afghanistan. The Department of Defense reported that three were killed in Kandahar province this past Saturday. DOD said a suicide bomber detonated a bomb in his vest. None of the three were from Kentucky but were all assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.
In a separate attack, five were killed on Sunday in Western Afghanistan. DOD said they were from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, but did not release their names, nor details of the attack that killed them.

Woman Critical, Three Others Safe After House Fire on Tuesday
She was a grandmother. Patricia Ruth May was last listed in critical condition after she and her three grandsons escaped a house fire yesterday on Crosshill Road in Danville. Firefighters said the fire may have started in wiring near the family's artificial Christmas tree. Danville fire chief Woody Ball said her grandsons were not hurt, but May was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, being treated for smoke inhalation.

High winds cause damage, power outages
Heavy winds wreak havoc in Stanford.
The high winds ripped the roof off the Stanford Dollar General Store and knocked out power to the Stanford Walmart for about a half hour.
Sustained winds were close to 24 miles an hour with gusts as high as 33 MPH.
To put that in perspective -- the threshold for tropical storm-force winds is 39 MPH.

Man arrested doe DUI after crash
A woman was hospitalized -- and a man is under arrest -- in a crash earlier this week.
The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office says 36-year-old Timothy Smith of Eubank was drunk when he crashed into a car being driven by 43-year-old Elizabeth Floyd, also of Eubank.
Deputies say Smith turned at the intersection of North U-S 27 and Highway 1247 -- right into Floyd's path.
Crews had to cut her out of her vehicle so she could be taken to a hospital for treatment.
Smith was booked into the Pulaski County Detention Center.

Lincoln County Fatal Fire Victim Identified
Authorities have released the name of the man who died in a house fire in Lincoln county yesterday afternoon. Earnest Cornett was pronounced dead at his home yesterday evening, about two and a half hour after the fire was reported at 4pm. The mobile home, on Bitner Cemetery Road near Kings Mountain, was engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived. Investigators say the blaze appeared to have started near Cornett's wood stove. Cornett was found in a back bathroom, and appeared to have been trying to escape. An autopsy, which is routine in an unattended death, will be conducted in Frankfort.
Early Morning fire Injures Danville Woman
Firefighters say a Danville woman is in critical condition after she escaped her burning home early this morning, then went back inside. The woman, whose name has not been released, was found in the doorway of the house at 831 Crosshill Road, and they don't know why she turned around to go back in the house. Everyone else had made it out safely. One of the family's nine pets, a dog, did perish in the blaze.
Investigators are still confirming the cause of the fire, but preliminary indications are that it was caused by wiring near or on the family's artificial Christmas tree, which was in the living room. The fire was contained inside that room, but the entire house suffered smoke and water damage. An estimate of the amount of damage is not complete.

Kentucky State Police have arrested a Garrard County man for stabbing six people in Trimble County this weekend. Troopers said this morning that Aaron Woosley was arrested after he was released from a hospital yesterday. He'd been receiving treatment for the injuries he received during the fight.

Troopers say Woosley had been invited to the party at the home of a friend, Chris Barnes. While there, he got into a disagreement with some of the people at the party and pulled a knife. At some point, troopers say, Woosley armed himself with a sawed-off shotgun and pulled it on one of the people in the fight, but was subdued subdued by the group. He received facial injuries as he was being subdued, according to troopers.

Robinson Pleads in Carrender Murder
Twenty-seven year old Rafael Robinson has pleaded guilty to murder, robbery and burglary charges in connection with the death of an elderly Somerset man. Robinson is one of two people accused of killing 72 year old Homer Carrender. Robinson was in court yesterday. He and 46 year old Peggy Mina wee arrested last year for the murder. Carrender was found dead in his apartment on November 6 of 2009 but his body was not found until the next day when police stopped Robinson as he drove Carrender's car. Prosecutors said that if Robinson had gone to trial, he could have got the death penalty since he was accused of several other crimes. They say he'll be sentenced to life without parole.
UPDATE: Police Say Alcohol A Factor in Truck-Train Fatal
An update now on that truck-train crash yesterday. Investigators said they think alcohol was a factor in the crash that killed one and injured another in Whitley County. The crash happened on the train tracks on Highway 26 near Woodbine. WKYT TV is reporting that officials say the driver of the truck, 26 year old Terry Elliotte of Corbin, was trying to get around the railroad crossing arms when his truck was struck by the CSX train. A passenger in the car was killed and Elliotte was taken to the hospital.
Officers say it appears Elliotte was intoxicated when they found him at the scene.

A homicide suspect who escaped from a jail in Kentucky last month was arrested in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Authorities said they kept track of 25-year-old Stewart Creekmore as he logged onto Facebook and My-Space. He was at a relative’s house in Green Bay when police tried to arrest him on Friday.

Media reports said Creekmore escaped from a jail in Mount Sterling, Kentucky on October seventh by going through a chain-link fence at a recreation yard. Prosecutors said Creekmore drove through a red-light in Kentucky in July and broadsided a truck. The truck driver was killed, as was Creekmore's girlfriend's unborn baby, she was six months’ pregnant at the time.

Police are investigating a fatal fire that broke out near Waynesburg around 6:30 last night. They said firefighters fought the blaze at a mobile home on Bitner Cemetery Road in Lincoln County and found a man's body inside. His name has not been released.
Centre College Ranked by Forbes
Forbes Magazine has named Centre College in Danville as its top college in the South for a second year in a row. It outranked Vanderbilt, Rice and Duke. Centre College is the only Kenutcky school that's made the publication's top rankings. Forbes broke its rankings into the top 25 best colleges, ten best private colleges and ten best public colleges and all of them are in the South. Centre College has nearly 12 hundred students and yearly tuition in just over 39 thousand dollars and that includes on campus room and board.

One person is dead and another was critically injured in a crash last night involving a pickup truck and a train. The crash happened near the intersection of Kentucky 26 and Perkins Drive in Woodbine.
Several Arrested on Drug Charges
Several people were arrested in Pulaski County on drug charges. Three people, all from Somerset, were arrested when police found items to make meth during a traffic stop. Two more were arrested at their home when police got calls there was a meth lab on the property. And the last was indicted for manufacturing meth and possession of a controlled substance.

Stanford Native Dunaway Honored
A Stanford native will be honored by a mining company in western Kentucky for his tireless work to promote that part of the state as a hub for energy. John Dunaway, who retired recently at the age of 78, was first a Baptist minister, a vocation he served until 2003. But he also became an energy evangelist after moving to Henderson, telling anyone he met that Henderson’s economic future lies with coal, coal gasification, biofuels, carbon sequestration, power generation, algae research and other energy-related technologies.
Dunaway’s persistence won him legions of admirers and a position as a state field representative for the University of Kentucky’s Center for Applied Energy Research. But in gratitude for his determination to advance energy production, Patriot Coal announced that a new coal mine it intends to develop in southern Henderson County will be named the Dunaway Mining Complex.
At a reception with community leaders in Patriot’s offices Henderson recently, Patriot and coal reserve owner Penn Virginia Operating Co. announced they had reached a comprehensive coal reserve agreement involving 42 million tons of saleable coal. That will keep a presently-operating mine in the complex operating another 12 years or more.

Lebanon Man Cited in DUI Crash
Kentucky State Police say one person was hurt in a Friday evening crash on Miller Pike a mile west of Lebanon. Police said a 2000 Toyota that Nicholas Blandford was driving, swerved to miss a vehicle that was backing into his path. Police said Blandford slammed on his brakes, lost control of the vehicle, it left the road and it rolled several times, landing against a tree. Police said alcohol was a factor in the crash. They also say Blandford was wearing a seatbelt, but was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries. Blandford was cited for aggravated DUI.

How's your Christmas looking? Yes, its early, but many people are already looking at the season with grim faces, knowing that they won't have the money they'd like to have for the holidays. People who in previous years said they were able to lavish friends and family with gifts, said this year, not so much. In many areas of Kentucky and throughout the country, they say they'll do what they can this holiday season.
Danville Police Looking for Robbery Suspect
Danville Police are looking for whoever robbed the clerk at a gas station at gunpoint on Friday night. They say that just before 9:30 p.m., a black male went into the Triangle Mart BP where Third and Fourth Streets merge, demanded money and fled, heading east toward Third. Police could not find the suspect, but said he's described as about 5'10" with a stocky build. If you know anything, call police.
Fire Destroys Kitchen, Family Safe
The kitchen was a total loss, but nobody was hurt when a fire broke out on Mooreland Avenue in Harrodsburg Saturday morning. Fire crews were called just before noon and were able to keep it from spreading to the rest of the house. Officials said there were five people at home at the time, but everybody got out safely. They also say the fire was out in less than 30 minutes.
Woman Reports Missing Rings Worth about $4,000
Richmond police say a woman reported her wedding ring and engagement ring were stolen sometime between November 6 and last Tuesday. She said they are worth about four thousand dollars and were in her purse. Police said the victim described the rings as white gold with diamonds. Police said its not clear where the theft happened. Anyone with information about the missing rings should call police.
Barr Concedes Election to Chandler
He took on a four term Congressman and lost, but now, Republican Andy Bar has concede the nearly two week old election . Barr went up against sixth district Congressman, Democrat Ben Chandler. Barr said that with the near Republican sweep of the elections as a whole, he figured on being a part of that. He lost the race by less than 650 votes. So on Friday, the votes were canvassed, and he picked up one vote, in Lincoln County. Kentucky's board of elections will certify the election on November 22.

Soldiers To Deploy This Summer
More than 1,350 soldiers from the Kentucky National Guard will report to their armories next June as part of the largest mobilization of the Kentucky National Guard since World War II. Reports indicate that the 149th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade received its mobilization orders for Operation New Dawn in Iraq. The 149th MEB makes up about one-third of the state's troops. While the 149th is based in Louisville, its soldiers come from our counties, Gerard, Lincoln, Boyle, Casey and all across the commonwealth.
Miller Acquitted
A Casey County Jury found a woman not guilty of trying to poison her grandfather. Brittany Miller was acquitted yesterday of attempted murder. Miller's attorney said she was not involved in Leonard Walls drinking anti freeze. Miller had been accused of putting antifreeze in Walls' coffee and other beverages, he, saying that she was after his money. Miller's attorney said Miller was supposedly the only living relative Walls had not alienated and the two lived together.
KOHS Gets Grant for Equipment
The Kentucky Office of Homeland Security is getting more than half a million dollars in what could be life saving equipment. The grant is in State Homeland Security Grants to Bluegrass Area Development District to buy equipment, mobile data computers and interoperable communications. Governor Steve Beshear said the grants help to pay for equipment that will keep the commonwealth safe, giving first responders the most up to date equipment to do their jobs. The equipment is for Boyle County, the interoperable communications equipment is for Gerrard and other counties, and the mobile communications equipment is for Boyle, Gerrard and several other counties as well.
All Veterans Honored at Luncheon
Veterans in Boyle County have seen a lot. Two of them are 91 and 95 years old and served in World War II and both Geroge Garrison and Carlton Stull were honored in Harrodsburg on Veterans Day, yesterday. A ceremony and luncheon honored all veterans, even those who didn't make it home from Iraq three years ago. Justin Estes was killed as he tried to rescue another soldier from an IED blast when a second went off, killing him. He was with the 82nd Airborne at Fort Campbell. This was the second year for the luncheon where all veterans were honored.
Kids at Wilderness Trace Get o Touch the Animals
The Heart of Kentucky United Way is helping kids at Wilderness Trace Child Development Center. This week, the people from the Heartland Veterinary Hospital in Danville brought animals to the kids to let them reach out and touch the animals. Some 50 kids got to touch, hold, hug and otherwise be in contact with the animals that they might not otherwise meet since they didn't have to go out of their own environ to see or touch them.

Red Cross Helping Family Burned Out of Home
The American Red Cross is helping a family since they were burned out of their home in Harrodsburg yesterday morning. Fire investigators said they got the cal around 3:30 a.m. at a house on Poteet Street. Harrodsburg Fire Chief Chris Dean said the house was engulfed when they got there. He said the people renting the house got out safely. Dean said the fire apparently started in a wood burning stove. The house was a total loss.
Pair Charged with Drug Trafficking
Two people were arrested this week on charges of trafficking methamphetamine. Law enforcement officers from both Lincoln and Pulaski Counties joined forces to make the arrests. Lincoln County Sheriff's officials says undercover officers made a meth buy at a house on Kentucky 501. When police searched the house, they found cash, drugs and firearms. They also arrested 47 year old Danny Butt and 21 year old Jesse Butt. Both are from Kings Mountain and are charged with trafficking and taken to the Lincoln County Regional Jail.
11th Hour on the 11th Day During the 11th Month -- Veterans Day
11 a.m. on the 11th day of the 11th month. The day in 1918 that the Armistice was signed that ended World War one, and would eventually become what we now know as Veterans Day. Historians say that on this Veterans Day, it is appropriate to celebrate, as it honors both the living and those who have passed. So to that end, its the second annual Veterans Appreciation Day Luncheon at the National Guard Armory in Danville. About 13 hundred are expected at the luncheon that's set for 11 a.m. Those in the know remind you to say "Thank you for your service."
Lincoln County, IDA Working Deal for Land
A deal's in the works to possibly get some land for a new Lincoln County Jail. County Attorney Daryl Day said the industrial Development Authority would give up the property if the county forgives a loan it made to the IDA about ten years ago. The land is worth about 100 thousand dollars. The loan is worth about 250 thousand dollars, so the county is willing to forgive 100 thousand dollars of the quarter million dollar debt. IDA said if the deal goes through, it will pay the city of Stanford 125 thousand dollars, as part of the loan repayment.

Jack Hinderer's granddaughter Desiree Hinderer was killed in a crash three years ago and now he's working to open Desiree's Youth Farm, a place Jack says kids will be able to go to get help. He said Des was the one others went to with their problems, but they'll be able to go to the farm. Jack is looking for donations to buy the 42 acre farm and he said the donations will be 100 percent tax free. More information is at desireesyouthfarm.com.

Man Cashes Dead Person's Check
A Rockcastle County man could get up to five years in prison if he's convicted with what he's been charged. Police said that 48 year old Luz Dennis of Richmond is charged with theft by failure to make required disposition for cashing a check belonging to a person who died in February. Dennis claimed he was cashing the 578 dollar Social Security check for the person for whom he was supposedly the caretaker. Authorities said Dennis was not the decease's caretaker and should have returned the check to the Social Security Administration in March. He was arrested last Friday and release from jail on a ten thousand dollar bond.
Talk is on Course to Change Old Bridge Course
With Old Bridge golf course's membership dwindling, one of the owners says Boyle County's only public course could be sold. Bruce Brown is the general manager and head golf pro and said membership is as low as he can remember. He said along with considering a sale, the owners are thinking about reorganizing how the club operates, including closing for the winter. Brown said so far, no definite decisions have been made, that everything's just in the talking stages. Shareholders in Old Bridge will meet later this month to talk about what to do with the golf club.
Second Veterans Appreciation Day Luncheon at 11 a.m. Today
Its Veterans Day, and like communities across the country, Danville will observe the day set aside to honor all military veterans, living and dead. This year marks the second year for the Veterans Appreciation Day Luncheon at the National Guard Armory and about 13 hundred are expected. The luncheon is set for 11 a.m. Organizers call the now annual event a reunion for veterans who's ages cover an 80 year span. Veterans from all area counties are invited to partake in the event and there'll be entertainment and door prizes.
KSP Investigating Four Arson Fires
Kentucky State Police are looking into several fires that have broken out over the past six months, and all of which they said are arsons. The fires have damaged or destroyed four structures. Two of the fires happened on the same day, about four and a half miles apart on Fall Lick Road in Lancaster. The first and fourth fires happened at the same house on Crab Orchard Road. KSP is asking for your help in solving the fires, so if you know anything, contact state police. You could earn a one thousand dollar reward.
Operation November rain Nets 82 Plus One Constable
Operation November Rain netted more than 80 drug trafficking suspects, and one of theose was a Lincoln County Constable. The year-long investigation began wrapping up on Tuesday morning when several law enforcement agencies started serving arreste warrants, rounding up suspects and processing them at the Kentucky National Guard Armory in Danville. Constable Kenny Lodge was arrested at his home in LIncoln County and charged with possession of marijuana and trafficking in a controlled substance. Officials say 16 of the 83 suspects are in out of state jails and were served with arrest warrants.
