Garrard County fire officials said it was a lightning strike on Saturday that caused a fire that burned a Berea to the ground. Home owner Mark Dees said it happened around 3:30 p.m. Dees was not home when the lightning strike and subsequent fire started, but saw the fire, and went into the house to try to save his four dogs. FIrefighters said the house was a total loss, but Dees said he'd rebuild on his property.
