Seventeen year old Alyssa Kelty died when her car hit a van on Perryville Road in Mercer County Friday. Visitation will be today at 5:00 p.m. at Southside Christian Church. Her funeral will be at the church at 1:00 Tuesday afternoon.
Kelty, a Mercer County Senior High School Junior was Sheriff' Ernie Kelty's daughter. KSP said Kelty was driving her Chevy Cobalt around 3:30 p.m. Friday and could not negotiate what police call a dangerous curve on US 68 West, went off the right side, over corrected, slid, and slammed into another car. The driver and two small children in that car were not seriously hurt, but Kelty died instantly. KSP said she was not wearing a seatbelt. MCSHS Principal and Kelty family cousin Malissa Hutchinson said everyone in the county is shocked by word of Alyssa's death. It was senior night at the high school football game as those at the game tried to come to grips with the news.
