As students were evacuated from Hustonville Elementary on Wednesday because of a gas odor, the town's own fire department was nowhere to be found. But the school was no ignored. Crews from Moreland, Lincoln Count Schools and Atmos Energy all responded. But where was Hustonville? County Fire Chief Danny Glass said when he got to the school, he didn't see any firefighters. Glass said that Hustonville Mayor Cecil Maddox asked the county to take over while the department was reorganized since most firefighters had quit over a disagreement with Maddox. Glass said he has not heard from the mayor for a few days, but did say that Hustonville will be covered in an emergency.
