Meyer Receives KSP Honor

First it was the Medal of Honor from the White House, and now Marine Sergeant Dakota Meyer of Kentucky has been man an honorary Kentucky State Police Trooper. After ignoring his command, Meyer rushed into enemy fire, saving American and Afghani soldiers. Several law enforcement officials were on hand as Meyer became an honorary member of KSP.

$200,000 Winning Ticket Sold in Lincoln County.

Nobody's come forward with a winning ticket in the 203 million dollar Powerball jackpot from Saturday, Kentucky lottery officials say there was a 200 thousand dollar ticket sold in the commonwealth. It was sold right here in Lincoln County at Don's Food Mart. Don's will get two thousand dollars for selling the winning ticket. The winning ticket matched all five numbers but missed the Powerball in the October 29th drawing. Check your tickets and see if you're a winner: the numbers are 11 – 16 – 40 – 51 – 56 and the Powerball was 38.





Romney in KY

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will be in Central Kentucky this month. His people say he'll be in Lexington on November 17 drumming up support of voters at a fundraiser ahead of the primaries.

Troops Come Home Tomorrow

Tomorrow will be a day to welcome home some Kentucky troops from Iraq. As President Barack Obama said he'd bring troops home by the end of the year, the 50 or so who will come back to Kentucky are the first of those troops. They'll return on Wednesday to Beuchel Army National Guard Armory in Louisville. The 198th MP Battalion is part of the 149th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade which deployed more than 1,300 Soldiers to Iraq last June.

Centre College Choses as Veep Debate Site

Officials at Centre College have announced that it's been selected as the site for a vice presidential debate. The debate is in just under a year, October 11, 2012, and little less than a month before the 2012 election. This will be the second debate that Centre College has hosted: in 2000, Dick Cheney and Joe Lieberman debated here. Three other debate sites chosen by the Commission on Presidential Debates have also been selected. They are University of Denver in Colorado, Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, and Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida..

Kentucky State BBQ Fest This Weekend In Danville

If you are anywhere near downtown Danville this coming weekend, you will not be able to miss the smells of the Kentucky State BBQ Festival. Charlie Cox with the Danville-Boyle County Economic Development Partnership says a portion of the proceeds of the free event go to the United Way.






The event takes place Saturday from 11 AM to 10 PM and Sunday from 11 AM to 6 PM.

Danville-Boyle County CVB Wins Awards For Tourism Ads

Charlie Cox with the Danville-Boyle County Economic Development Partnership says at the recent fall conference for the Kentucky Travel Industry Association, the Danville-Boyle County Convention and Visitors Bureau won several Traverse Awards, which recognize excellence in tourism marketing.






A first place was also received in Print Advertisement/Single Ad Designed Around One Theme and a second-place was received in Social Media.

Two Bands in State Finals

Two area high school bands marched their way to state finals over the weekend. Garrard County High School and Danville High School headed to Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green for the honors. Mercer County and Boyle County also went to state competition, but were eliminated in Saturday's early performances.

Funeral for Sheriff's Daughter Tomorrow

Seventeen year old Alyssa Kelty died when her car hit a van on Perryville Road in Mercer County Friday. Visitation will be today at 5:00 p.m. at Southside Christian Church. Her funeral will be at the church at 1:00 Tuesday afternoon.
Kelty, a Mercer County Senior High School Junior was Sheriff' Ernie Kelty's daughter. KSP said Kelty was driving her Chevy Cobalt around 3:30 p.m. Friday and could not negotiate what police call a dangerous curve on US 68 West, went off the right side, over corrected, slid, and slammed into another car. The driver and two small children in that car were not seriously hurt, but Kelty died instantly. KSP said she was not wearing a seatbelt. MCSHS Principal and Kelty family cousin Malissa Hutchinson said everyone in the county is shocked by word of Alyssa's death. It was senior night at the high school football game as those at the game tried to come to grips with the news.

Candidates Debate Tonight

Steve Beshear, David Williams and Gatewood Galbraith will stand together on the same stage tonight in a rare gubernatorial debate. Rare because as yet, Beshear has refused to face off in a debate. The contest will start at 8 p.m. tonight, be a 90 minute affair, and will air on Kentucky Educational Television. With Election Day just over a week away, Kentucky voters will get to see all three putting forth their cases for being the Commonwealth's top executive. Political observers say the debate will only give voters a chance to see their candidates, but probably won't change anybody's mind. Beshear leads the way, some 30 points ahead of Williams and 50 points in the polls ahead of Galbraith.

Junction City to Vote on Liquor Sales on Final Time

Junction City city council is set to vote today on second reading of an ordinance that takes the city from dry to wet. The new law, once its approved, would allow alcohol by the drink in restaurants, package liquor sales and retail beer sales. With the pending approval, Merl Baldwin will go from police chief to local Alcoholic Beverage Control administrator. Also after the city's approval, businesses can file for one of the two package liquor licenses that the state has granted to the city. Restaurants that seat 100 or more and can maintain more than half of their sales from food can also sell liquor by the glass, and Baldwin says lots of businesses want to come to Junction City to make money off of liquor sales. Junction City voters approved alcohol sales by a three-vote margin, 198-195, in an October 4 special election.

Boyle County Sheriff's Office Will Collect Prescription Drugs

The Boyle County Sherriff’s Office will be accepting old, unused or out-dated prescription drugs tomorrow. Detective Sergeant Brian Wolford says the collection will take place between 10 AM and 2 PM at the Boyle County Courthouse.






Residents are urged to drop off prescription drugs with the sherriff and not dispose of them in the trash or down the sink which can send contaminants into our water supply.

Danville-Boyle County Humane Society Receives Grant For Clinic

Danville-Boyle County Humane Society has received a $5,000 operating grant for its Happy Paws Spay/Neuter Clinic from the Two Mauds Foundation in New York City. Kathy Nelsen with the Humane Society will help them continue their work.






The Clinic is only open one day a week and is run completely by volunteers. Call 859-691-1137 for an appointment.

Boyle County Library Offers Free Halloween Fun

The Boyle County Library has free Halloween fun for both kids and adults on October 27th. Jamie Helle with the library says the children's storytime begins at 4 PM with the adult tours starting at 6.






Tours run every 20 minutes. Helle encourages everyone to come in costume.

Perryville Could Have Part Time Police Force

Perryville city council will consider changing its police department structure at its meeting this week. Last week, Chief Charlie Parks told council that he'd like to cut his working hours back to part time so he could collect social security, and that he and a part time officer could handle things. Several residents voiced their opposition to that idea, saying that Perryville would not have enough police protection. Then, the idea was raised that there be two part time officers and a part time chief. Council said that wouldn't cut down on the money they're spending on police personnel, but it would give the city more police coverage. The next meeting is on October 27 and a vote on the matter is expected then.

Lincoln Co Gets FEMA Grant to Buy Land

Lincoln County has FEMA funding to buy property that's located in flood planes there. County officials say there are seven properties they're going after, with the largest being the Big Valley Mobile Park off U.S. 27. The county says nobody has to give up any land if they don't want to, as its a voluntary land acquisition. What prompted the buy was the May 2010 flood, as the county said several structures sustained heavy damage from the flooding. The buy will cost just over 900 thousand dollars and FEMA will pay for 75 percent of that, the county will pay for the rest.

Four Busted on Drug Related Charges

Four people were arrested in Harrodsburg last week on changes related to methamphetamine and marijuana possession. Fifty-eight year old Delbert Jones Jr., 51 year old David Jones, 21 year old Chelsea Dulovic and 36 year old Stephanie Wilcher with numerous charges related to making, dealing and possession of the drugs.

Adams Issues Apology

Lincoln County Judge-Executive Jim Adams issued a public apology last Friday for paving that church parking lot. His apology in part read quote -- "As county judge, I am the chief executive of the county and make decisions daily that I believe best serve the county. At last Monday's Fiscal Court meeting, it was brought to my attention that improvements made to the Church at Cedar Creek were not in compliance with KRS 179.375. My misinterpretation of this KRS will not cost the taxpayers of Lincoln County. I apologize to the citizens of Lincoln County and have learned from this mistake." The project cost about six thousand dollars and it remains to be seen as to whether the state will take action against Adams.

David William' father-in-law is investing in him --in a big way. Documents filed with the state and the feds show that Terry Stephens has given the campaign more than a million dollars through Restoring America. The group one its fight yesterday to run ads attacking Governor Steve Beshear. Terry Stephens owns Stephens Pipe and Steel in Russell Springs.

Man Busted for Trying to Rob Store

Lincoln County Sheriff Curt Folger said this guy didn't get far before he was nabbed. Folger said 31 year old Chad Bennett walked into the D and M Mart on Stanford Street around 10 a.m. and when he walked out after trying to rob the place, he had no cash and was busted. Seems that Bennett told the woman behind the counter that he had a gun and demanded money. She said no to his demand and he fled. Deputies arrested him shortly there after, and he had no weapon. He's in the Lincoln County Regional Jail on a first degree robbery charge.

Child Dies From Injuries in Crash

We told you on Tuesday about that crash on Monday involving a Saturn, an SUV, two small children and two adults. Now we learn that one of the children has died of her injuries. Officials say 20 month old Khiana Dowell died at UK Medical Center in Lexington. The crash that killed the child happened south of Stanford when the Saturn that she, another child and two adults were in was rear ended by an SUV. KSP said the Saturn that 22 year old Kasey Tramontano of Stanford was driving was stopped, waiting for traffic to clear at US 27 and Shake Rag Road when the SUV that 41 year old Angela Salyers of Waynesburg was driving hit it. Salyers and her passenger did not require any treatment for injuries. All were wearing seat belts.

Ephraim McDowell Health Employees Asked To Speak At National Conference

Next week, representatives from Ephraim McDowell Health, will travel to Washington, DC to speak at the Electronic Health Records Summit. Keith Bridges with Ephraim McDowell says Angela Allen and Becky Blevins were asked to help the United States government improve its health information system.






The conference will take place October 26th and 27th.

Road Open After Crash

Some 78 thousand pounds of hydrochloric acid was leaking after a truck overtuned in Lincoln County last night. It happened at Martins Trail and Highway 698 or Mason Gap Road. The road had been closed since early yesterday and first responders said the wet, narrow road may have contributed to the crash. There were no evacuations and nobody was hurt

Lawmakers call on AG

Mercer County State Representative Kim King is one of 9 members of the Kentucky House signing a letter to the Attorney General asking for an investigation of what they call gaming devices at Kentucky Downs. Pictures of the devices accompanied the letter dated last Friday. The 9 lawmakers say the pictures make it apparent the machines are prohibited under Section 226 of the Kentucky state Constititon and Chapter 528 of the Kentucky Revised Statutes. They say the AG's office hasn't replied to their letter, as of yesterday.

Legislators Call on AG to Get Rid of Slots in Franklin

Nine state legislators, including those from our area have written an extensive letter to Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway, asking him to investigate the slot machines at Kentucky Downs in Franklin. The legislators contend that the slots break the law because it is the job of the state legislature to vote to allow slots at race tracks, and as yet, Kentucky has not done so. The legislators say quote -- "This circumstance is especially bothersome when the racing commission is admittedly working in what the commission itself calls a "common interest with the racetracks." Legislators said the AG is obliged to enforce the law as it is written now

Household Chemical Disposal for Mercer, Boyle Counties

There's a household hazardous waste collection from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Boyle County Fairgrounds. It's open to residents of Boyle and Mercer counties and you do have to prove that you live in one of the two counties. The items you can dispose of are aerosols, pesticide liquids, pesticide solids, fire extinguishers, cleaners (acids/bases/oxidizers), reactives, fuels (gasoline, kerosene), transmission fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid, greases, oil-based paint, fluorescent bulbs, adhesives, roof tar and driveway sealers. Don't bring used oil, batteries or latex paint. The fairgrounds will only be open to those from the two counties who are dropping off materials.

Legislation Could Cut Copper Thefts

Republican state Representative ill Farmer of Lexington says he'll push legislation that would impose new rules about selling scrap copper to try to cut down on thefts. Farmer says he'll put up legislation in January to ban scrap dealers from buying from anybody who's not a license contractor or authorized resale rep. Farmer says the regulations have to be toughened to stop copper thefts and illegal copper sales.

Jill Ammons: Make Changes

Jill Ammons says she wants to see crossing arms at that location in Mercer County where her daughter, 19 year old Sophia was killed when her vehicle was hit by a train. But she also wants to see more caution lights, and lowered speed limits for both trains and other vehicles crossing the tracks. Ammons said it doesn't matter to her whether its Norfolk and Southern or the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, it matters that changes are made so that no more parents lose their children. A memorial service for Sophia Dawn Ammons will be held this Friday 6 p.m. at the Worlds Town Church of God in Junction City.

7 Hurt in 2 Crashes

We told you yesterday about a crash on US 27 that sent four people to UK Hospital via helicopter on Monday. The two adults and two children, both under two years old, are recovering from injuries received when an SUV hit their Saturn. That crash happened around 6 p.m. Sheriff's officials say there was another crash about an hour before that one that sent three others to hospitals on Monday. KSP said 49 year old Jennifer Sims of Wyanesburg was southbound on US 27, trying to turn onto Tick Ridge Road when she hit a northbound vehicle that 59 year old Linda Allen of Science Hill was driving. Allen and two passengers in her vehicle were taken to Lake Cumberland Regional Medical Center with what KSP said were minor injuries. Police say the only good outcome of both crashes were that every one was wearing seat belts.

Hitachi Hiring

Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas is adding jobs to Mercer County. Its a 12 million dollar investiment in producing lithium-ion battery packs and there are expecte to be 60 new jobs at the plant. The new jobs and new production schedule will start next year in a new 150 thousand square foot facility on the company's Harrodsburg campus. The batteries will go into hybrid electric motors and could go into cars that are being made in Kentucky. Hitachi is already making the technology for the Chevy Volt, that new electric car that you plug in, and will be making more technology like that for other cars.

Tickled Pink Comedy and Music Event This Friday In Danville

Tickled Pink, A Celebration of Life Beyond Breast Cancer Event will be held this Friday at the Gravely Hall Performing Arts Center at Danville High School. According to Keith Bridges with Ephraim McDowell, the fundraising event features the comedy of Mack Dryden.






Tickets are still available at all six PBK bank locations and Ephraim McDowell. Proceeds go to the Ephraim McDowell Healthcare Foundation.

Two Adults, Two Small Children Hurt in Crash

Two small children and two adults are in UK Hospital this morning after a serious crash at US 27 at Shake Rag Road in Lincoln County yesterday. Kentucky State Police said it happened when an SUV slammed into a Saturn that was stopped at the intersection around 6 p.m. The children, six months and 18 months, were flown to helicopter to the hospital. Greg Smith was a witness who tried to help at the scene. He told WKYT TV that the driver was trapped in the Saturn.

"She was trapped there in the front seat. The door was jammed. The deputy sheriff had to bust the glass out to get her out."

The two people in the SUV refused treatment at the scene.

Several Hurt in Crash

Several people, including several children were hurt in a crash last night in Lincoln County. Sheriff's officials said it happened around 6 p.m. south of Stanford at US 27 at Shake Rag Road. Three helicopters were called to the scene to take patients to hospitals.

Judge Tells Restoring America to Stop Airing Ads

The political attack ads were apparently getting to candidate and incumbent Governor Steve Beshear, as Franklin County Circuit Judge Thomas Wingate issued a restraining order to stop an independent political group called Restoring America from airing their ads that bash Beshear. It was the Kentucky Democratic Party that asked the courts to issue the order, calling it illegal for the group to affect the outcome of the election. Judge Wingate said the group would not disclose those who contributed to its cause.

Flu Shot Clinic Today

There's a flu shot clinic coming up in Boyle County. The Health Department will hold the clinic from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church on Waveland Avenue. Its not free flu shots...they cost 20 dollars. Anybody four years old and older can get the flu shot, but children under 4 years old will have to go to the health department for their shots. You can also go to the health department any time to get a flu shot.

Man Arrested in Alleged Bow Theft

Danville Police arrested a man on Saturday for allegedly taking stuff from a car. Police went to Shawnee Road late Saturday afternoon where they were told that a couple of bows were stolen from a pickup truck. The two were valued at 15 hundred dollars. After they investigated, police arrested 20 year old Andrew Blevins behind a business on Main Street. Police found the missing bows and returned them to their owner. Blevins is charged with felony receiving stolen property more than 500 dollars. If he's convicted, Blevins could get one to five years in prison, and he was last in the Boyle County Detention Center.

Flu Shot Clinic In Danville On Tuesday

Boyle County Health Department will hold a flu shot clinic today (Tuesday) from 3 to 7 PM at Calvary Baptist Church in Danville.. Public Health Director Brent Blevins says to call the health department if you are not feeling well or have any questions.






Cost is 20 dollars. You can also go to the health department during business hours to receive a shot.

Kentucky's Largest Pink Ribbon Is In Danville

Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center is committed to breast cancer awareness. According to Keith Bridges, Director of Marketing, they are so committed, they have displayed the largest pink ribbon in Kentucky.






Bridges reminds everyone that breast cancer affects both men and women and that early detection saves lives. The ribbon is located on the tower section on Third Street in Danville.

Family Holds Vigil

Charles Randolph went missing from his Casey County home, and his family commemorated that date over the weekend. They have no answers, no clues as to what happened to him. Police have classified Randolph's case as a homicide. They say he went missing from his home in October, 2009 and while police later found his truck, they have no clues as to where he might be. His family said on Saturday that they will not stop looking for him.

Man Sues for Civil Rights Violation

Normally when somebody's evicted from their home, their stuff is set outside and they pick it up later. In Rodney Cochran's case three years ago, his now ex-landlords came in and with the help of two then Lincoln County Sheriff's deputies, took all of his stuff, and even sold some of it to the deputies. Cochran and his attorneys have been going through the courts to sue all the parties, as they claim the procedure used was illegal. Cochran's case of illegal search and seizure is pending in US District Court in Lexington and the U.S. Court of Appeals in Cincinnati said deputies overstepped their bounds when they helped, and helped them selves to Cochran's property. Cochran is suing for the 150 thousand dollars that the property is worth, and three million dollars in punitive damages.

Train vs. Train Kills Harrodsburg Teen

The Mercer County Coroner said that 19 year old Sophia Ammons was killed when her vehicle was hit by a train. Chuck Bugg said the crash happened around 9:15 a.m. Investigators said the Harrodsburg teen was driving over the tracks on Bohon Road, just west of Harrodsburg and the moving train collided with her pick up truck. Bugg said the teen died of blunt force trauma when she was thrown out of the truck. He said she may not have seen the train for sunlight in her eyes, and was killed instantly.

Were KY Ed Comm Trips Ethical?

Kentucky's education commissioner took a couple of international trips and now says he committed no ethics violations. Terry Holiday said he was with an education foundation. That business got state contract. Holiday said he's been honest about the trips to Brazil and China with the Pearson Foundation so that he could see how other countries their educational challenges. The New York Times questioned whether those trips would affect whether Kentucky got a contract with Pearson.

Taxpayers Pay for Private Paving Project

Lincoln County taxpayers are paying for a part of a six thousand dollar makeover of a church parking lot. Judge executive Jim Adams said at a meeting on Monday that quote -- "it was my call". The parking lot is at the Church at Cedar Creek on U.S. 150 east of Stanford. Adams called the parking lot a wide driveway. Adams said it's been done before, at other churches, so he had it done at that church. But county magistrates were not consulted and did not vote on the work. They church has paid four thousand dollars for the work, leaving you and me with the rest..

Bradfordsville, KY Post Office Finds Out in December

FINALLY! One post office finds out when it will find out if it will be closed. Bradfordsville, Kentucky. The US Postal Service says it will decide if Bradfordsville will keep or lose its post office. Mayor David Edelen said a majority of people in the town are low to moderate income, that lots of the folks in Bradfordsville don't drive, and don't read and write, and so closing the post office there will be a hardship for them.

Hazardous Waste Collection To Take Place For Mercer and Boyle Counties

Start gathering all of those household items you couldn't throw away before. Boyle and Mercer County will hold a Household hazardous waster collection beginning at 9 AM on October 22nd. Mercer County Solid Waste Coordinator Norm Jennings says the collection may only last a few hours.






No used oil, latex paint or batteries will be accepted. Call your county's Solid Waste division for more information on items that will be accepted.

Refugee Chamber in China

They're not available for use in this country yet, but Mine Shields Inc is sending one of its refugee chambers to China so they can test and certify it. The local company is still waiting for US certification as well. So Mine Shields Inc is sending one of its chambers that's six feet tall and 23 feet long to China. Once the company gets certification either in China or in the US, it will hire as many as 200 people to make more Refugee Chambers..

KY Man Busted in Investment Scheme

A Kentucky man is in trouble with the feds for bilking some 23 people in three states out of 1.4 million dollars as part of an investment scam. Cory George is from Owensboro and faces wire fraud charges involving three peoople, but Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa Ford wants 20 more victims, from Kentucky and Florida added to the case. George has pleaded not guilty. George promised investors a return of more than four percent in a year's time.

harrodsburg Emergency

The city of Harrodsburg declared a state of emergency on Monday so it can fix a big problem at its wastewater treatment plant. Mayor Eddie Long said he was told that a heat exchange boiler was broken and needed tot be replace immediately. Workers also have to clean some other equipment for everything to work properly. State officials said they were aware of the issues and that Harrodsburg is not facing any fines at this point.

Raise a Glass

For as small as Danville is, there's a lot of beer brewed here. And that hasn't come in any great amount of time, only just in the past few years, since the city voted to go wet. Those at the cities two breweries say we have one for every 75 hundred people. Most of Kentucky's breweries are either in Louisville, Lexington or Northern Kentucky and so Danville has two. Brewers say the demand for microbrews has always been in the area, it just took a wet law to give the people what they want.

Forkland Heritage Fest Creates Perfect Fall Event

Forkland is holding their Annual Heritage Festival from 10 am to 10 pm this Saturday. Chairman Louis Eubank says the food, the arts, the crafts and music all make for a great fall drive.






Period re-enactors and the making of homemade sorghum will be featured as well as the construction of a log cabin during the day. Admission is just 2 dollars.

City Commission Says Committee Would Have Input into Who Would be City Manager

Danville City Commission is trying to move the process forward that puts a new city manager in place. The city commission says the committee will reciew all the applicants and rank them based on how well they match what the city wants. Those specifics haven't bee determined yet. Cannon Caught

When we last told you about this guy, he was still on the lam, but now, 31 year old Jason Cannon of Lancaster is in custody. He turned himself in to Boyle County authorities, and was turned over to Pulaski County lawmen and faces even more charges related to his escape. Cannon and Courtney Slusher were on a work release detail out of Pulaski County when they got a ride from an airport employee. They faked a car breakdown on the way back to the Pulaski County lock up, and Cannon got away. He ended up in Danville with his girlfriend. Slusher and airport employee Clyde Collett were busted for helping Cannon escape.

Restaurant Wants to Be Annexed

Annexation is a tricky thing, some are for it, some are against it, but the municipalities that do it, like it for the tax base. That's why its curious when you hear that a business wants to be annexed. In this case, the 19th Hole at Bright Leaf Resort -- not the whole resort, just the 19th Hole. Helen King runs the restaurant. She said that everything around it is wet, so customers don't go there, since they want to drink alcohol. So King told Harrodsburg city commissioners that the restaurant wants to be annexed, not the resort. Commissioners said no, but Mayor Eddie Long said they could corridor zone the restaurant, and that King's idea is still being kicked around.

Friends of the Boyle County Library Presents Sarah Vahlkamp

Sarah Vahlkamp will be the Friends of the Library program at noon today (wednesday) in the community room at the Boyle County Library and will present a program called “What Is It About The South?” Jim Moore with the Friends of the Library says Vahlkamp has local ties.






The presentation will be based on Vahlkamp's observations and collected stories about southern customs. It is free and open to the public.

Free Health Screenings Offered In Danville On Saturday

Ephraim McDowell Health is sponsoring a free health screening for anyone over the age of 18 from 8 a.m. To noon Saturday at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Danville.

Turtleman Films Here



Amid the yells and carrying on of the Turtleman, Kentucky's Ernie Brown Jr. was working on his latest "reality" TV show, which we all know is a staged reality, but nonetheless, the Turtleman was doing what he does: finding turtles in the waters of the Bluegrass and preparing for the next installment of Animal Planet's CALL OF THE WILDMAN, premiering on Sunday, November 6, at 10 pm (ET/PT). If you look close enough, you might see some familiar sights, as some of the scenes were of call ins to WPBK about some of the critters in our neck of the woods.

He said once he finds the right animal, has it trained and with a handler, it will be a full service K-9 officer. Honor Flight On October 22

There's an Honor Flight for veterans coming up on October 22, and lots of organizations are making the flight happen. Inter-County Energy and Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives will pay for the flight, taking 35 World War II veterans to see the memorial in Washington DC. They'll also see other monuments while in the Nation's Capital and then head back home. Honor Flights are a way for veterans and their escorts to see what they might otherwise not, mostly because of monetary limitations, but for the 35 who'll head from here to Louisville, then on to DC, everything will be paid for, and Southwest Airlines if coming up with the tickets.

Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Still Taking Donations For K9 Officer

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department is very close to raising all of the funds to add another full-service K9 officer to their force. Sheriff Curt Folger says the department is very grateful to all who have donated so far.






The goal is to add the new officer by late October or early November. Donations can be made at the Sheriff’s Department located off Main Street in Stanford, or you can contact the Sheriff’s Department at 606-365-2696.

Drug Comapnies Want No Script for Cold Drug

A representative of drug companies has asked that Kentucky not pass a law that requires people getting pseudoephadrine to have prescription. The drug industries said it would be better to create a registry of those convicted of meth crimes, banning them from buying pseudoephadrine, which is the main ingredient in methamphetamine. Those who know, say that people who want the legal drug to make the illegal drug do not come and buy it themselves. Kentucky lawmakers debated the issue this year, but did not pass it.

Harrodsburg Man Indicted in Fatal Crash

A Harrodsburg man is facing reckless homicide charges for his part in a crash in which a 17 year old girl was killed. A Franklin County grad jury haded down an indictment last week. Police said that 31 year old Kevin Butler ran a red light when he got distracted by his cell phone, and Trisha shoemaker of Frankfort was killed. Police said the crash happened when Butler was heading south on US 127 when his SUV hit Shoemaker's car. She was killed at the scene of the crash.

Cops Looking for Missing Inmate

Sheriff's deputies in Pulaski County are looking for a Lancaster man who walked away from a work detail at the Pulaski County Detention Center late last week. Deputies are looking for 31 year old Jesse Myers Cannon who walked away on Thursday, and as of this weekend, was still at large. He had been working at Lake Cumberland Regional Airport and, with another inmate, got a ride back to the jail with an airport employee when the vehicle broke down. The employee said Cannon walked away as the two were working on the vehicle.

Bourbon Chase is this Weekend

Boyle County, along the route of the Bourbon Chase greets runners twice: when the Bourbon Chase starts off tonight in Perryville, and again as runners take sit a spell from the running in Danville. The Bourbon Chase is a 200 mile, overnight race, that has teams starting on a rolling start, about 15 minutes apart. Danville, Perryville and Boyle County can expect to see some two thousand runners from Friday to Saturday and lots of support personnel and cheering fans. The teams will follow the bourbon trial throughout the bluegrass.

Two Killed in Marion Co Crash

Two people were killed when two trucks collided in Marion County yesterday. Police said that It happened on Highway 55 when 54 year old Monte Edelen of Lebanon was trying to make a U-turn in his pick up truck when it hit a log truck that 67-year-old John Dowd of Owenton was driving. 89 year old Charles Edelen and Monte Edelen were both killed, but Dowd was treated and released from the hospital.

Slots to Stay at Kentucky Downs

The slots will stay at Kentucky Downs. That was the ruling of the Kentucky Court of appeals this week when asked to have the expanded gambling devices removed. The Courier-Journal reported that the Family Foundation of Kentucky wanted the court to keep the racetrack from running the slots, but the court said there won't be enough damage to warrant removing the machines.

Cross, Dyche Bring Politics To Danville

Dyche and Cross were in Danville yesterday. That would be Louisville attorney and conservative columnist John David Dyche and reporter and columnist Al Cross were part of the Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce Public Policy Series. The pair took on national politics but focused, for the most part, on the gubernatorial race, which will come to a head in less than a month with the November election. Both agreed that there won't be much of a race come election night, since David Williams is down in the polls by 30 points, They also agreed that while Williams is a great legislator, he failed to materialize a campaign. They both also lashed out a Governor Beshear, saying he has not offered a platform. only riding his own coattails.

BCSO Investigates Home Invation

Boyle County sheriff's investigators are looking into a home invasion that happened on Worthington Road near Parksville yesterday morning. They said that it was around 4 a.m. when the homeowner was awakened when somebody kicked in the door and demanded money. When the homeowner tried to stop the intruder, he fled. Deputies say nothing was taken.

Craig Castle Gets 60 Years

He apologized to his victim in a letter, saying that he robbed the Check Advance on Hustonville Street because he needed to make rent. When Craig Castle didn't get but 90 dollars, he assaulted the woman working there. When he was sentenced after he pleaded guilty in July to the assault, Castle got 60 years. He admitted that he assaulted, raped, sodomized and left his victim in a closet as he robbed the business. Castle will have to serve 85 percent of the 60 years before he's eligible for parole because of the court's determination of the violence of the crime. Castle's wife Darlene was sentenced to seven years because she acted as the lookout, but did not know how violent the crime was. She pleaded to second degree robbery.

Lancaster Water Plant Could be Happening

Lancaster could be getting some monetary support for its water plant. The city is going after a 2.5 million dollar Economic Development Administration grant to build its water plant. The money marks the first step toward the water plant since the council decided to build the 12 million dollar plant. Lancaster could buy water from Danville or sell the system to Kentucky American.

Nobody Hurt in Bus, 2 Vehicle Crash

There was a three vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon, and while nobody was hurt, one of the vehicles involved was a Danville school bus. The crash happened around 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Highland Court and Hustonville Road as Elizabeth van Hook's bus, number 003 with the bus monitor and five children on board, got to the intersection. Danville Schools director of transportation, Chuck Stallard said everybody was checked at the scene and all were fine. Danville Police said van Hook said she had a green light as she turned from Highland Court, south on Hustonville Road. The second driver, 62 year old Linda Holt from Harrodsburg said she too had a green light. She was heading south and clipped the bus. Holt's car then hit another vehicle that 40 year old Ernie Griffith of Danville was driving. Police said he was heading north.



Salvation Army Taking Applications For Holiday Assistance

Lt. Dan Nelson, Corp Officer for the Salvation Army says they are taking application for Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance until Friday.






Nelson says the Christmas assistance is also a food basket as well as the Angel Tree for children ages zero to twelve. To sign up, you must go to the Salvation Army located at 519 South Fourth Street in Danville.

Two Hurt After Rockslide

Two people were hurt after a rockslide in Garrard County. Investigators said it happened last night on US 27 near Camp Nelson. Investigators said two car sized boulders were blocking the southbound lanes of the road when one car hit the boulders, and a second car hit the first. Injuries are not believed to be serious.

Danville Featured in "Where to Retire"

Where to Retire Magazine has picked Danville as one of its places where to retire. The magazine will feature the city in its November/December issue that will be out on October 18. Where to Retire's editor, Mary Lu Abbott said Danville possesses qualities important to today's retirees. She said people don't want quiet when they retire, but they don't want noise either, and she said Danville has that. With lots to do and lots happening, that's what makes the city a place in which to etire.

Junction City Approves Alcohol Sales

Yesterday, Junction City approved of alcohol sales in a very close race. The final tally of voting was 198 to 195. The outcome opens the door for retail beer sales and package liquor stores. The number of liquor package licenses will be determined by the state office of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Boyle County Clerk Trille Bottom said the 398 ballots cast was about two-thirds of the total for in city voters who cast ballots in the last general election.

Rural America Fights For Broadband Access in Washington

Yesterday, more than 125 farmers, ranchers, teachers, small business owners and others from communities and small towns across the country gathered in Washington, DC as part of “Broadband WORKS for Rural America.” Jess Peterson, Executive Vice President of the US Cattlemen's Association spoke to us about the importance of access of broadband to everyone.






Kentucky has served as a role model for the rest of the nation through ConnectKentucky which improved broadband availability to households from 58 to 95 percent from 2004 to 2007.

Gift Will Train Engineers

The Harrodsburg-Mercer County Industrial Development Authority brought a shot in the arm with a ten thousand dollar gift on Monday. As the board met this week, they got to tour Mercer County Senior High school and bring their gift that will keep the engineering courses alive for another year. Faculty members say they want students who won't go on to college to be able to walk out of the classroom and into the Cornings and the Hitachis of the world, where engineers are needed.

High Court Says Noto Death Penalty Case

A Kentucky death row inmate has been denied by the US Supreme Court. the high court decided not to hear the case of 47-year-old Shawn William Windsor who wanted his execution to be sped up. Windsor pleaded guilty in Louisville in 2006 to killing his wife and son. He asked for the death penalty. The issue is that Kentucky has been barred from executions, but not related to the Windsor case, and the state also does not have the drugs necessary to carry out the execution.

Two Busted on Meth Charges

Two men will be arraigned on meth possession charges today. Police busted up a meth operation on Worldstown Road, where one of the suspects lives. He's IDed as 30 year old Jeremy King. The other is 29 year old Clinton Daugherty, he's from Lebanon. The two have been in the Boyle County Detention Center since Sunday with no bond. Boyle County Sheriff’s deputies and Kentucky State Police got a tip that there was meth activity at King's place, which is owned by Steve Douglas, early Sunday morning and went there. They found the meth lab, and their suspects, in the garage behind the house. Boyle County Sheriff's officials said more charges could be filed and that Douglas was not charged.

Junction City Votes on Alcohol Sales Today

Its election time in Junction City. That means voters will go to the polls today to decide if the city will sell alcohol. Then, there would be two cities in the county, providing today's vote is for alcohol sales, selling alcohol. Remember, Danville sells alcohol. Today's vote is for licenses for liquor stores only. If Junction City wants bars and restaurants to sell alcoholic beverages, there'd have to be another vote. While Danville had a committee making sure the city would sell alcohol, there's one man in Junction City who started the petitions to get the question on the ballot. Ron Pemberton said he collected the signatures to call for the vote saying it would improve Junction City's economy.

Auditions To Be Held For Stanford Christmas Production

Auditions for the Stanford Arts Center Christmas show will be held this Saturday and Sunday from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Arts Director Bob Swett says parts are available for all ages.






Those interested should come prepared with their own Christmas monologue, reading, song or you can read from the script. Director of the show will be Amy Barkman.

NFL Goes Pink

Real men wear pink...during October, when its Breast Cancer Awareness month. NFL Coaches and players will sport some form of pink on the field and off to promote the cause. The American Cancer Society is reminding women over 40 to get breast exams, and reminding all that even men can get breast cancer, and survive it, if they're aware of it. At NFL games over the weekend, there were pink ribbons on the footballs, the goal post padding, and even on the field were the famed pink ribbons. In case you didn't know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Group Says Recession to Worsen

Members of a panel in Frankfort on Friday said the Commonwealth's economy has been in better shape. The "Consensus Forecasting Group" says the recession will get worse for Kentucky, which means tax revenues will decline. The group is made up of economists from Kentucky's universities, and the legislature bases its revenue projections on the group's economic forecasts.

Oldest Store Could Be Open Soon

Waters from the North Rolling Fork River didn't wash away Kentucky's oldest continuously operating country store, which has been in business since 1850. That's from Kentucky.com. Jeanne Penn Lane owns and operates the store in Gravel Switch and says she hopes it'll be open again soon, and by soon, Jeanne means in time for the "Great Outhouse Blowout" Its coming up this coming Saturday. Several of the people who are working on the store's restoration grew up with it and also want to see it open.

2 Gautiers Charged

Danville police nabbed two men, one of whom they said was driving drunk. Twenty eight year old frank Gautier was the driver who was charged after police were called to a drunk driver in the Imperial Trailer Park. He also faces several traffic violations. Police said as they and the drivers got out of their vehicles at the traffic stop, Gautier's truck rolled backward and hit the police cruiser, causing minor damage. Fifty nine year old Guy Gautier was charged with same, but he was the passenger, and the police report doesn't say why Guy Gautier faces a DUI.

Last Practice

Next year, the Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site will be one of 54 sites across the Commonwealth to host the Kentucky Civil War Heritage Trail. It will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War Battle. This past weekend, there was a smaller version of the same, for reenacters to get ready for the big event. While making the battle look as authentic as possible, there was a concern that there wouldn't be enough reenactors for the weekend rehearsal, but alas, reinforcements showed up, and there were. Kentucky has been planning the 150th anniversary Civil War battle events for a while now.
