Stacy Guilty of Rioting; Jury Hung on Arson Charge in Northpoint Case

There was a conviction in the case of the 2009 riot at Northpoint Training Center, but not the conviction the prosecution had hoped for. What they wanted was a conviction of Newell Stacy for first degree arson, but the jury hung up on that charge and the judge declared a mistrial on that charge. They did convict Stacy on a lesser charge of rioting, which is a class D felony. When its time for sentencing, prosecutors say they'll try to get that upped to a class B felony because of Stacy's criminal history. That could net Stacy 10 to 20 years, instead of the 1 to 5 years for the class D felony. Sentencing is tentatively set for January 2.

Help Wanted: Lancaster Police Chief

They're still looking for a police chief in Lancaster. The one man that Mayor Brenda Powers and City Attorney Leonard Smith courted for months, retired KSP Captain Greg Baird of Stanford, said 'no thanks'. Baird said he had personal reasons for turning down the opportunity. Its not just the lack a leader for its police department that has the mayor and city attorney concerned, but the loss of some state funding that the department gets, but only with a leader in place. Mayor Powers said the state is cutting the city some slack on the funding and the chief.

The three cents added to every dollar spent at restaurants in Harrodsburg gets split evenly between the city and the tourism commission. While residents say they know that the city spends its 300 thousand dollars annually on grant moneys to fund projects and events, many say they don't know what the tourism commission does with its part. Bringing New Life to an Old Building

Its a 50 thousand square foot space on Stanford Street and has had several lives. Most recently not good ones, but Jones hopes to change that with a renovation.

New "List" To Fight Meth

Kentucky lawmakers are, like their counterparts in other states, fighting the pseudo ephedrine versus meth problem. Some states have made cold medications with pseudo ephedrine, the main ingredient in meth, a prescription only drug. Others have devised how buyers of the cold remedy can get it by not being on a list or by being on a list. Now, Kentucky State Rep. Brent Yonts is suggesting that those with drug convictions be prevented from buying the cold medication. It would, in effect, create a meth offender registry and if a name is on the list, that person couldn't buy anything containing pseudo ephedrine.

It amounts to about a five percent increase that the postal service says hopes to keep it out of bankruptcy. The man seems to know what he wants, as he's taking boxes from the same area on about four shelves. He's wearing dark colored clothing, dark gloves, and nothing concealing his face.
