Three of Kentucky’s five living Medal of Honor recipients attended the event. The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force that can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. In 2011, legislation was introduced that called for the creation of the plaque. It will hang in the Capitol Rotunda, opposite the statue of Abraham Lincoln.
