Library Director Karl Benson says that hazardous waste mitigation is under way in the old First Baptist Church education building on South Fourth Street and a house that most recently was used as law offices for the late Bill Stevens at the corner of West Broadway and South Fourth Street. Although a contract for demolition hasn’t been signed, Benson said the work likely will begin about the first of April and take a month to complete. Many have questioned whether the Stevens building could have been used for another purpose instead of tearing it down.
