Start of Danville water treatment plant expansion delayed
The start of construction on the expansion of Danville's water treatment plant has been delayed because of a lack of money. Officials did not get an anticipated $12.8 million Rural Development Grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Because that money is not available, that delays the expected $1 million Community Development Block Grant, according to the Advocate-Messenger. An official with the firm managing the project says the federal government is interested in funding the project for fiscal year 2013-2014. The city manager is looking at other ways to fund the project, such as bonds. The expansion is needed so that the city has the capacity to meet future needs, and also to meet upcoming EPA regulations for water treatment.
